FROM THE Otago Daily Times. “ Inveniam viam aut faciam .” FRIDAY, MARCH 21st, 1862.

Some six weeks ago we drew attention to the great want of some institution for the relief of the aged, the and the destitute, and we urged upon the benevolent the necessity 01 some prompt action being taken in (he matter. It is with peculiar satisfaction, therefore, that we notice that sn effort is now about to be made by a few gentlemen in town to start a Benevolent Asylum, which, besides affording .1 refuge for the aged and infirm without distinction of creed or race, shall also provide for the reception of destitute orphans. ... It is estimated that a building such as is proposed to be erected in the first instance could be built for less than £4OO. and it is confidently anticipated that no difficulty will be found in raising this comparatively trifling sum by public subscription among the wealthy community of Dunedin. u We understand that the steamer ‘‘ Ruby ’ has during last week landed at Port Chalmers from different vessels no less than 13,861 sheep, of which 1400 were from the “ Anna Kimball ”; 2463 from the “ Queen of India”; 3849 from the “Hope”: 2735 from the “ Peerless ”; 3411 from the “ Arabia.” REPORTED NEW RUSH. Information reached town last evening that a new rush had taken place to a spot about forty miles distant from Waipori. No particulars transpired respecting it, but it was known that about two hundred miners had started from Waitahuna in addition to those who had gone from Waipori. It is quite possible that this may turn out to be a false report and we would therefore caution miners against being led away to follow what may possibly prove a “ will-o-the-mist ” before more definite intelligence is obtained.
