HOSPITAL BOARD REPORTS
Following are summaries of the reports to be submitted at next meeting of the Otago Hospital Board: — The Benevolent Committee reports having dealt with 41 oases for relief at a weekly tost of £23 3s. casual cases for relief amounting to £2Bl 17a 8d have been approved. During the past month eight persons have been admitted to, four discharged from, and 156 inmates remain in the institution. The Hospital Committee recommends that the tender of Mr John Barrowman for the lease of splint workshop and supply of splints for the year ending February 28, 1923, be accepted, the quotations submitted to be considered the maximum price, and special quotation to be obtained for each individual requirement as same comes along; the shop to lie divided as suggested, the tenderer to supply his own tools and machinery, and a new door to be provided; also, that all facilities be granted to the Defence Department to let the artificial limb workshop to one or both of the present emplovees on similar terme to the letting of the splint workshop, the matter being arranged with the director of training and surgical workshop. The committee also recommends that the following be appointed house surgeons at the Dunedin Hospital:— Drs H. S. BilclifY. C. R. Childs, Eva E. Day, and Marion A. Taylor, for the period ending January 31, 1923, and that in future all such appointments should terminate on January 31 of each year; that the following be appointed the honorary medical staff for the year 1922-23 : —Physicians—Drs F, Fiteheft, S. Moore, D. \V. (Jarmalt Jones, and W. Marshall Macdonald; assistant physicians—Drs R. Ritchie, C. S. Murray, anil A. S. Moody; surgeons —Drs L. E. Barnett, F. S. Batchelor, E. J. O’Neill, and W. Nowlands; assistant surgeons—Dr T. Fergus. J. Renfrew White, and E. H. L. Lindon; gynaecologist. Dr F. R. Riley; assistant gynaecologist. Dr C. North; ophthalmic surgeons, Drs H. L. Ferguson and A. J. Hall ; assistant ophthalmic surgeons—Drs W. I. Bathgate, W. E. Carswell, and K. Ross (the two last-mentioned each for six months alternately for the inpatient -s’ work); physician Jor diseases of children. Dr E. H. Williams; dental surgeon. Mr Cecil IT. Tait; surgeon in charge of the facial and jaw department. Dr Pickerill ; senior house surgeons, Dr H. S. Bilcliff and Dr C. R. ChiKis; junior house surgeons, Drs Eva Day and Marion A. Taylor. The Finance Committee recommends that a reply be sent to the Director-general of Health', stating that the board approves of a superannuation scheme for Hospital Board employees; that- intimation having been received of the expiry on June 28 of the board's lease of sections at Wakari, n reply be sent that as these will not bo further required the board does not propose to take any further action or incur imy expense in connection therewith : thst the claim of this board against the Southland Hospital Board for the maintenance of a man in the Dunedin and Wakari Hospitals be referred to the Minister for his decision; that the replv sent to the Directorgeneral of the estimated capital requirements for the year 1922-25? £SOOO by levy and subsidy and £9OOO by loan—if work be passed, be approved. In considering the same. it. became necessary to also consider the question of estimates on the maintenance account, and it is proposed in the meantime that the contributory local authorities be advised that, they will he called upon to provide £45.000. inclusive of half the capital expenditure—namely, £2soo—this amount to_ be subject to adjustment, when the estimates are made up and circulated later.
