“THE GENTLEMAN BUSHRANGER”
After viewing Beaumont Smith’s latest production, ‘The gentleman Bushranger,” at a private screening, it is quite safe to assume that Australian productions will receive a fillip that no previous film has given them. Founded on the story by Roderic Owen, “A Stripe for Trooper Casey,” Air Smith has embodied in this feature a wealth of detail, and every scene, every action, shows that the most minute attention and thought have been given to the production. Taken as it was amidst the mountain country of Australia, there are some striking examples of magnificent scenery, such as the Fitzroy Falls, the Kangaroo Valley, and the wonderful timbered hills and gullies with which Australia abounds. John Cosgrove, Tal Orbell. Bobby M'Kinnon, and many of Australia’s noted screen artists portray the different characters, and a leading lady new to New Zealand in the person of Miss Dot M'Convillo, the champion horsewoman ot Australia, will appear. This young lady had not been long in her teens when, at the Melbourne Show in 1917, she established the world's record 'high jump, and thus brought her daring and cleverness prominently before the rest of the world. The story of “The Gentleman Bushranger” is strongly brought out, and never for an instant does the interest cease. Several line scenes are depicted, such as the fifrhl in the rigging of a schooner, a gold escort robbery, the bushranger held up by the police, a i i-scr.c from a mine. The humorous interest is also clearly carried out bv the introduction of a troun of dramatic players, who are touripg the backblocks, whilst the bushrangers carrv on their nefarious work. Mr Beaumont Smith’s production will be shown in Dunedin shortly.
