ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

TO TiiK EDI TO If Sib,—Being an interested reader of your column devoted to Association Football notes I was much surprised at the team selected to represent the "Rest” in a practice match with the Otago team. There is a remarkable predominance of Mornington players, seven having boon selected. Does this mean that this club is the proud possessor of eight men (one in the Otago team) fit to be in the first and second elevens? If so, it is ridiculous, as Northern is leading in the Senior Competition by one point from Knitangata and Old Boys, Mornington is equal with the two last mentioned, but has played one match more, and has finished the season. As one of the other three teams must win the competition, the inference is that it is stronger than Mornington. Now, sir, who are the selectors, and in what clubs have they been interested in years past? I think I am right in saying that a few yours ago two were ardent Mornington supporters. There are three selectors, and two can put their heads together and select whatever men they fboose, as they will constitute a majority. I would like, however, to make a suggestion: I.et the “Rest” plav either Northern, Knitangata, or Old Bovs—l feel sure that the club would win.—T am, etc.. Old Soccer Plateb. Dunedin, August 12.
