HOSPITAL BOARD

The following are the principal clauses in the committee reports to be submitted to the Otago Hospital Board at its next meeting:— The Finance Committee reports that a roonest liavincr been received from tho town clerk, Port Chalmers, the architects have been instructed to obtain tenders for the electric lighting of the present and proposed new building of tho Port Chalmers Hospital. The committee recommends that the estab’ishment of a maternity hospital at Palmerston be not proceeded with, but as approved by the Director-general, a district nurse with general and maternity training bo appointed for this district, and that all offers to the* board of premises at Palmerston suitable for conversion into a maternity hospital he declined. The town clerk, Lawrence, has intimated that the Lawrence Borough Council is prepared to carry out tho necessary drainage work from the proposed maternity hospital and to accept all responsibility in connection therewith, subject to the sum of £2O being contributed by the board, and tho Works Committee of the council has been instructed to lose no time in pushing on the work. Authority has been granted to advise the Defence Department, in terms of the agreement, of the actual cost of maintenance of patients in the Dunecbn Hospital for the year ended March 31. 1921, and that account for some will be forwarded to department after books been duly certified and audited by the Audit Department. The medical officer of health having intimated that the Directorgeneral cf Health has declined the board s claim in regard to mamtenance of smallpox patients, same has been ordered to be held over until the Director-general visits Dunedin when be will lie conferred with hereon. Tho bank Glances are “ follows:—General account (debit). £5643 6s lid; Campbell interest account (credit) £32 6s 4d;—net debit balance, £5611 Cs id. The Benevolent Committee reports hav|n.r dealt with 40 cases for relief at a weekly cost of £2l 10s. Casual cases for relief amounting to £609 4s 3d have been approved. During the post month five persons have born admitted to, two discharged from, and 151 inmates remain in the Benevolent Institution. Tho Hospital Committee reports that a sub-committee consisting of the chairman, T>,. \pvdands, and Mrs Jackson has teen appointed to confer with representatives of the Otaro University Council, the honorary medical staff, and tho _ Massage Committee in regard to the organist,aioti cf the massage school. Copy of tho med cal superintendent’s report in the meantime has been forwarded to the Director-general. Instructions have been given to re-apply to the Department of Heabb for payment of claim for treatment of V.D. cases (outpatient) at the Dimedm Hospital. Lhe secretary has been instructed to forward to the medical officer of health information m regard to this Epidemic Advisonr Committee appointed by the board and of the arrangements made bv that committee to date. During the month of July two persons have been admitted to, one discharged from, and five persons remain in tho fever hospital.
