VICTORIAN POLITICS. FARMERS’ FARIT’S POLICY, Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, August 10. Mr Allan, leader bt the Farmers’ Party in the Assembly, in expounding his policy, said that the (government assumed a criminal responsibility when it suddenly changed its policy respecting the wheat pool, thus throwing the producers on to on unstable open market. This was obeying, not the electors, but the wheat merchants and speculators. THE WHEAT POOL. SYDNEY, August 10. The Farmers’ Conference passed a resolution in favour of a compulsory wheat pool for the next harvest, to be managed by a board of five, which shall be appointed by the whoatgrowers. ADELAIDE, August 10 The Premier, during the Address-in-Reply debate, said that the Government was firmly opposed to the continuance of the wheat pool. The Government had decided also on a vigorous policy of retrenchment. THE MISSING CANASTOTA. SYDNEfy August 10. Regarding the • wreckage which was found at Lord Howe Island, it is explained that some is marked ‘‘T.O.T.,” while the Canastota manifesto showed the markings “ T.T.” only. It is now stated that the “ O.” is probably an old marking, and the wreckage is believed to have belonged to the Canastota. The agents are awaiting further particulars before making a definite announcement. , QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT. NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION. BRISBANE.. August 10. In the Assembly Mr Fowles gave notice of motion—“ That the Government docs not possess the confidence of the electors because of its incapacity in the conduct of buisness.” The House thereupon adjourned. OPENING .OF PARLIAMENT. A COLOURLESS SPEECH. BRISBANE, August 10. (Received August 10, at 7.36 p.m.) The Governor’s speech at the opening of Parliament was largely colourless. The proposals include insurance against unemployment, widening the scope of the Workers’ Compensation Act, the extension of raihvays to open up the western and north-western areas, the abolition of capital punishment. An early local loan of £3,000,000 is foreshadowed. NEW SOUTH WALES £10,000,000 LOAN. SYDNEY, August 10. (Received August 10, at 7.35 p.m.) A campaign to raise locally a £10,000,000 6 per cent, loan to fulfil the financial promises made to the returned soldiers has been successfully launched. ENGLISH MAIL CONTRACT. MELBOURNE, August 10. The formalities in connection with the renewal of the English mail contract -have been completed. A fortnightly service will start on September 24. MRS FARR’S ESTATE. - SYDNEY, August 10. A meeting of the Lunacy League Committee decided to approach the Leader of the Opposition in the New South Wales Parliament on the question of the release of Mrs Farr’s estate from the Public Trustee. It wa H stated that no reply was received to two communications which were sent to Mr Dooley (Acting Premier of New South Wales) on the subject.
