Mr A. E. Gascoigne has gone for a short rest to Christchurch, and will visit. Wellington. Mr A. D. M'Gavock is finishing up his connection with the Lands Department, having been appointed Conservator of State Forests for the Westland district. Mr V. W. Russell, son of Mr G. W. Russell, has been appointed associate to the new judge, Mr A. S. Adams, who will be stationed at Auckland. A valedictory social to Mr A. S. Adams, judge-elect, will be held by the Otago Auxiliary of the Baptist Union to-morrow. Mr Adams has been a deacon of the Hanover Street Church for many years, and has signally served all the Baptist churches in various capacities. Mrs Carmalt Jones has been elected president of the Dunedin branch of the National Council of Women. Miss M'Kenzie having announced the necessity of retiring after several years’ service in the post. Miss M’Kenzie accepted office as vice-presi-dent. Mr J. H. Walker will leave Dunedin this morning on a business visit to Auckland. Mr C. Holdsworth, managing director of the Union Steam Shin Company, was a passenger for Timaru by the second express on Saturday. Mr L. W. Harris, of Messrs Bing, Harris, and Co., will leave this morning for the north. He will be a passenger by the Tahiti for San Francisco, en route for London. Mr R. M Turnbull, of Hawke’s Bay, who has been spending a few days in the city, left for his home by Saturday’s second express. Mr T. Macky, managing director of Macky, Logan, and Caldwell (Ltd.), left by the second express on Saturday, and will proceed to his home at Auckland. In connection with the Otago University November examinations the following have been advised of their success:—Final section B.A. —Miss Esme Bentham, Messrs J A. Jjonkhart, D. W. Faigan, N. M. Tyrrell. First section B. A.—Messrs James W. Armstrong. Ronald G. Lockhart, William A. Ritchie, Thomas H. M'Donald, John R. Brown, George Wilkinson, and H. D. Fawcett. First section LL.B. —Mr .Boyd Deaker. _ _ . A pleasant social evening took place m the Bangor Tea Rooms on Saturday evening. The function was organised by the Dunedin Women’s International League for the purpose of giving a welcome home to Mrs Rundle ana Miss M. M’Cartbv, who have been away from New Zealand. Mrs Herbert presided over about 50 people, and in the course of her opening remarks expressed pleasure in having the guests with them. She also outlined briefly the aims and obiects of the Women’s League, and extended an invitation to all women to take nart in the league’s work. Messrs J. Brown and J. Gilchrist also spoke, when Miss McCarthy, on behalf of the guests, thsnked their co-workers and_ gave those present some of her impressions of the women's movement in the Old Land.
