WORKERS’ EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION.

GREEN ISLAND BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Green Island branch of the Workers’ Educational Association was held m tue Council Chambers last night. The vice-president, Mr Harrison, presided, there being about a score of members, including eight ladies, present. The annual report, as adopted, stated that though it’was late in the season when, the branon was formed, it could be claimed, with a certain amount of that a very protitable part-season had been experienced, ivluoh of tn© success wag due to the excellent manner in which the tutor (Mr CJ. M’Craoken) fulfilled his functions as lecturer, critic, and companion. The Mayor had assisted not only as a member but. as a chairman. At the end of the season the roll stood at 32. The average attendance was 21.5. It was pleasing to state that the roll contained the names of eight ladies, whose regular attendance was to be. commended. The delegates to the centre, Messrs Hqrrison and Rankine, had the .welfare of the class at heart, and at all times represented the branch ip a live manner. Receipts for the year amounted to £7 3s, and expenditure to £5 7s. ‘ Thanks were due to the centre for the library supplied, which was much appreciated and used by the class. It was resolved to continue the class this winter, and to begin with a social in April. The subject for study this year will be “ The Elementary Principles of Economics.” The Mayor (Mr J. L. Miller) was elected president, Miss Robertson and Mr Rankine vice-presidents, and Mr J. Miller secretary.
