FORESTERS’ CONCERT
A highly concert in aid of funds for the erection of Foresters’ Memorial Hall was held last evening in the Town Hall, Green Island, when there was a record attendance, and every item of the large and varied programme was heartily encored. The programme, which was the finest heard in Green Island for a considerable time, was opened by the newly-formed Foresters’ Orchestra under the baton of Mr D. Buchanan. This orchestra will be & great asset to the Foresters in Green Island and also to the district as a whole, and the 'conductor has every reason to be proud of it. It also rendered! two Scotch selections during the evening which were greatly appreciated. The following contributed songs daring the evening Misses A. Guy and H. Bachelor and Messrs C. Wright and E. Morgan. Messrs R. James and E. Morgan gave a splendid rendering of the duet “ The Battle Morn,” which was very much enjoyed; Mr E. Hendry quite captivated the audience with his recitations and sketches; the ventriloquism by Mr R. Turnbull delighted the children, who gave him a very flattering reception; Mr, W. M‘Vie was heartily applauded for his-clarinet solo ‘‘My Old Kentucky Home.” By kind permission of Messrs B. and J. Fuller, two artists —Miss Brull and Mr Hemsley—from the Princess Theatre gave several sketches, for which* they were enrepeatedly, and it was only after being on the stage for 35 minutes that they were allowed to retire. Mrs Miller presided at the piano in a most capable manner. > The Foresters are quite sure that their next concert which will be given in Green Island will obtain the whole-hearted support of the public, as did its predecessor.
