TWO CHILDREN DROWNED. FALL INTO A LAGOON. (Pm United Pkess Association.) . TTMARU, March 17. A distressing double drowning fatality occurred at Milford (near Tetnuka) yesterday, when two children—Eileen Mary and Patrick Daly, aged respectively three and a-half and two and a-half —lost their lives. The children, who were under the care of their grandmother, a feeble old lady, were playing on the edge of the lagoon, into which they fell. Efforts to restore animtvtion failed. RAILWAY ACCIDENT. PALMERSTON N., March 17. A shocking accident occurred at the Palmerston North railway yards this morning. A railway employee, W. G. O. Ware, was run over by a truck, and suffered injuries to his head, while his left arm was almost severed. Ware was removed to the hospital in a critical condition. He served four years in the late war, gnd won the Military Medal. TRAIN COLLIDES WITH JIGGER. THREE MEN INJURED. HAMILTON. March 17. While three railwaymen were proceeding to work on a jigger this morning in the thick fog between Hamilton and Horotiu a train appeared ahead suddenly. George Vailliley, the driver of the jigger, with great presence of mind, jumped off and attempted to pull the jigger off the line. He was too late, however, to avert a collision, and he' and his companions—William Oates and W. White—were injured and removed to the hospital. They are progressing satisfactorily.
