OTAGO EDUCATION BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board was continued yesterday ; Mr J Wallace in the chair. There were also present: Messrs D. Borrie, P. M’Kinley, J. Smith, G. Livingstone, W. R. Brugh, J. H. Wilkinson, and the Horn D. T. Fleming. The following resignations were accepted: 'A. P. L. Kennedy, head teaeher, Miller’s Flat; Alcxandrina Macßac, sole teacher, Kartigi; Mary A. Ryan) reported for the month ended 14th inst.:—Two convictions under the Education Act were obtained at the Magistrate’s Court, Milton. Two convictions were obtained at the Magistrate’s Court, Dunedin. Three informations are laid for hearing at the Magistrate’s Court, Balclutha. Three informations Eire laid for hearing at the Magistrate’s Court, Owaka. During the last month, with few exceptions, the general attendance has been very satisfactory. Repairs, Improvements, etc. —On the recommendation of the architect, requests by school committees were dealt with a? follow:—Awamangu, fencing, etc., £4O; Clinton, grubbing of gorse, etc.,’ £lB 15s; Glencmaru, increased accommodation not required’; Kelso, drainage does not require alteration. Regarding a Matau request, the architect reported that the property appeared to be very much neglected, and it was resolved to forward a copy of the report to bo sent tO' the committee, with a request for an explanation. Ratanui, repairs and fencing, £56; . Romahapa, repairs and concrete tank, £55; Te Houka, repairs, £3. The Board’s Committee recommended that a fence be erected across the glebe at Glenkenich, the portion thus out off to be let for five years; cost of outlay, £l6. Requests from Portobello and Beaumont for minor works were referred to the architect, either for report or with power. General. —The Department notified that Dr Macready had been appointed school medical officer, to act in conjunction with Dr Irwin. —Monday, April 18, was appointed as the date on which meetings for the election of school committees shall be hold.
