DISORDERS IN ITALY
SOCIALISTS AND ANTI-SOCIALISTS
PITCHED BATTLE AT FLORENCE,
Frees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. ROME, January 28. (Received Jan. 30, at 5.5 p.m.) The Socialists have declared a general strike in Florence, interrupting the railways between Rome and Northern Italy. Serious brushes occurred at Florence be tween the Socialists and the anti-Socialists. The latter, armed/ with revolvers, traversed the city in motor cars, and a pitched battle occurred in the street, but it ceased upon the arrival of the carabineers and the Royal Guards in armoured cars. Several persons were wounded. A train which was abandoned at Pistolia was manned by an emergency staff and resumed its journey, but was subsequently ambushed. Armed men fired on the locomotive. The passengers returned the fire and the assailants were driven off.—A. and- N.Z. Cable.
