(Received Oct. 24, at 11.5 p.m.) It is learned that the United States at tho International Communications Conference will seek the intomationalisation of the Pacific island \'ap (one of the principal of the Caroline Islands) as a cable landing station. It is understood that the United States desires to prevent Japan from securing the exclusive control over tho cables entering and branching off from iap. Japan claims that the Supreme Peaco Council gave her control over Yay as part of the mandatories over the c.vGerman Pacific Islands north of the equator, whereas the United States contends that tho final disposition of Yap was to be left till the International Communications Conference.—A. and N.Z.
