DUNEDIN BOWLING CENTRE.

A meeting of the Council of the Dunedin Bowling Centre was held last evening. The president (Mr W. G. Hay) occupied the chair. Mr J. A. M'Kimion, secretary Taieri Bowling Uub, wrote staling that his club was desirous of playing nin e rinks for the incoming season, conditionally if it could be arranged that six of the Buncdm rinks competiug should play on the Taieri green each week. This would mean that- the Taieri Club would always have three rinks travelling, aud the Dunedin teams would only have to visit the Taieri once a year. If tie arrangement proposed could not be agreed to the laien Club could only enter six rinks.—Eeferred to the Match Committee for favourable consideration. An invitation from the West Harbour Bowling Uub to attend the opening of its green on Saturday was accepted. • Mr D. E. Wood, secretary of the Christchurch Centre, wrote in reply to the local centre that .us executive was quite in accord with the proposal that .an annual inter-centre match should be played alternately iu the two cities. His executive would like tie first match to be played in Christchurch this season—The matter was leferred to a sub-committee to bring in a report. Mr D. E. Wood, secretary of the Dominion Bowling Association, wrote as follows:— "I wired £°"» -' U rc the P r °P° sed team to visit Great iiritain. An invitation has been received from the finglish Bowling Association for next season, and though it has not yet been accepted, it will more than likely be ratified by the incoming council at the meeting on September 22. In the meantime anyone is at liberty to forward his apphcation, which 1 am told must be in bv the date of the meeting. I can give you no turthcr information, but might state that the applications are coming in verv freely, and already there is a likelihood of a ballot for some to drop out," The Chairman said there appcaVed to be some uncertainty about the whole matter. In the first instance it appeared as though the trip was to be a private affair, and the next thing Pices of tie Dominion Association. If the trip they heard was that it was to go under the auswas to be a dominion trip they should certainly have had some official communication relating to The secretary (Mr Banning) said he did not think that the association would let a body of players travel to England as representing Now Zealand unless they had the stamp of the association. He understood that three Dunedin bowlers were to take part in the trip. •Mr Nelson said he was beginning to think that the association was not an association at all. It was a private concern. He thought the sooner the centre began to look after its rights the better. The association should be asked to supply full information concerning the trip. Mr A. M'Kcnzie said he quite agreed with the stand taken by Mr Nelson. The thing seemed to nave been engineered up north. Mr Barnett had aparcntly arranged details. It was decided to write to the association and respectfully request that in future when anv official invitation is received by the Dominion Association from any oursideiassociation' notification thereof should officially be given to the centres, so that the best available team mieht be selected. It was decided that the clubs should notify the number of rinks they intended to enter in the inter-club - competition on or before OctoJW 111.—Messrs ulover. Nelson, and Wright were appointed to arrange the programme.
