"IMMORAL DUNEDIN."
J. T. Stewart believes the statements of the Rev. Bryan King to bo "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,'' and takes exception to his detractors. "Is it at all likely," he asks, "that Mr King would publish his actual knowledge of this subject unless he knew it to bo true?" "Merely a Sport" road the strictures of the Rev. V. G. Bryan King on "Immoral Dunedin," and commends huh for his courage. In our correspondent's opinion 6 o'olock closing is not blameless as a factor, and he points out that away back in October of 1917, the Business Men's Committee convened a meeting for the purpose of "providing in the city'and suburbs men's social resorts in view of the coming into force of legislation providing for 6 o'clock closing." At this meeting it was agreed that something should be' done. 'The desire was to get hold of all sorts of men and keep them not only from drink, but from worse temptations than drink." Nothing was done, and he asks, "Are the chickens already coming home to roost?" After tilting a lance with "Mr Wowser" and "goody" folk he thinks "something practical should be done."
