PUBLICATIONS RECEIVED

We are m receipt, per Messrs Gordon and Gotan, of a parcel of tho latest magazines theso including tho Strand, the Wide World, and Nash's for August, together with copies of Nash's Illustrated Weekly and Weldon's Ladies' Journal. The feature of the Strand is fiction, the stories being m every case short and complete in the number and by popular writers such os Kathlyn Rhodes, Clarence Melby II C M'Noill (Sapper), Gilbert Collins' Sydney Horley, and P. G. Wodehouse. Of the more informative articles "Writers, on the War Path," by E. T. Raymond, easily takes tho palm. As ever the illustrations are a feature of the magazine. Tho Wide World as i s its wont, is filled with amazing adventures in all parts of tho world, including a wonderful "eel" story, described as "a nightmare adventure in the depths of a New Zealand forest," by D. W. O. Fagan, of Whangarei. Nash's, with, further instalments of Sir Hall Caine's and Mr W. J. Locke's serials, is a strong number. Other contributors are Meredith Nicholson', \V. B. Maxwell, Francis Hodgson Burnett, and Kathleen Nones. Nash's Weekly contains stories by G. K. Chesterton and Stacy Aumonier, and a big instalment of Jeffery Famol's new romance. "Black Bartleny's Treasure," besides being replete with pictures. Weldon's Journals bring a lot of new fashions, paper patterns, striking styles, and all that 'makes women smart and good to look upon. From the Commonwealth Bureau of Census and Statistics, Melbourne, comes a copy of the sixth issue of tho "Pocket Compendium of Australian Statistics," replete •vith a mass -of ■useful information and officially certified as accurate.
