ST. KILDA COUNCIL
The usual meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night; present-—til© Mayor (Mx A. D. Edgar), Crs Camp bell,'Longworth, Sullivan, Seddon, Garbutt. Kitchie, and Telfer.
The i inance Committee's report showed the state of the accounts to bo aa follows-—Dis-trict fund account, £6134 3a Id (.debit), special loan account No. 3, £697 <te Id (credit), drainage and sewerage account, £64 19b 9d (credit). The Secretary of the Domain Board requested payment of the council's promised! contribution of £200 towards the cost" of the permanent protective works at St. Clair beach.—Payment authorised. It was resolved to support a resolution ' passed by the W&imarin© County Council recommending the Government to promote legislation to allow hospital boards to borrow money for permanent buildings, the Government to grant a subsidy on all money eo raised. J
M- Stevenson wrote asking for a revision of prioeo 111 oonnection with his present charges tor the supply amd. delivery of material in view of the increase in wages, cost of material, and horse feed.—The letter was considered in committee, when it was resolved to ask tiie writer to submit a new schedule of prices. ors liongworth and Ritchie were appointed to confer with, the Gas Committee of the vij 118 to Btrect lighting in St. AUda.—lhe Mayor explained that, for the present, some of the lights would have to be dispensed with, and the puruose of the deputation was to determine what lights should noc bo lit, and to fix on a -new, ecale of charges.
The Town Clerk, Dunedin, wrote informing the council that the Finance Committee of tfie .Uty Council had considered the Domain Boards proposal that it should be taken over by the City Council, and was prepared to make a recommendation accordingly, provided that the council waa assured of the finance to enable it to fully moet its obligo»hons under the Domain Board's Act. 1%0 question of finance could be satisfactorily met only by the City Ckrancil and St. Kilda joiiitly bearing the cost of maintenance and any general protective works that might be deemed necessary. To meet this requirement provision would be made in. the legislation that the expenditure should be borne by the two local bodies, in the proportion of the capital value of their rateable properties.
