Carrying a tin of kerosene in a sack shinr over his shoulder, Frederick Thompson, a wharf labourer, residing at Potone, attempted this evening to board a train at Laimbton Station after it had gathered a fair speed. The ga.te of the carriago platform was closed, and Thompson lost his balance and fell between the last two carriages. J ne wheels of the last carriage passed over both his legs and on e arm. Thompson was removed to tho hospital in a very serious condition, whero he succumbcd to his injuries.

CHRKTCHU.RCH, June 28 Mr J Penny, manager of the Rakaia branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who is retiring on superannuation this month after 40 years' service, was accidentally shot in the abdomen on Saturday. He was conveyed to Balclutha.. and on Dr Stenliouse's instructions was taken on to the Dtmedin Hospital. At latest reports the injured man was doing well.
