NEW YORK, May 20. Seven detectives, three miners, one agitator, and the Mayor were killed in a revolver fight at Matewan, West Virginia. Tho trouble arose over the attempted ejection from their homes of striking miners' families by the detectives. Shooting became general; but the situation quietened early in the night.—A. and N.Z. LONDON, May 20. The Government has offered 11 acres behind the British Museum as a site for the London University. (Received May 21, at 9.30' p.m.) Mr M'Gill, head of the Canadian Grain Commission, told a parliamentary delegation that probably Canadian wheat would sell this year at three to five dollars per bushel, owinsr to the shortage.of supplies in other countries. There would be absolutely no wheat for Europe except that from the Argentine and North America. Canadian wheat would undoubtedly reach record prices. He was strongly against fixing prices, and favoured an uncontrolled market.—Reuter.
