A Wellington Press Association telegram states that tho following Otago justices ol the peaoe havo been appointed by the Gov-emor-Goneral: —John James Bardsley, North-East Valley; Alfred Ibbotson, West Harbour; Charles King, Milton; Samuel Leask, Omakau; Edmond Webber, Ophtr; Thomas Adlard Lowis, Blackstone Hill. His Honor Mr Justice Sim will proceed to Timaru on Monday to preside over the civil and criminal cases to be brought forward. The following Monday he will go south to Invercargill to hold sittings of the Supreme Court there. Information has been reoeived that Dr W. S V. Bransgrove, who graduated at the Otago University, and went Home last year to pursue his studies, has been appointed senior house surgeon at the Central London Opthalnv'a Hosp tal, a position at one time occupied by the late Dr M'Bride. Miss M'lver, chief clerk at the Dunedin office of the Colonial Mutual Life Insurance, who has been transferred to the Auckland office, was met by tho staff at the local office on Thursday afternoon. Mr Culbert. superintendent, on behalf of tho staff, wished her every success in her new position, and presented her with a handsome lady s handbag and manicure set. Miisa M'lver, m suitable terms, expressed her thanks. Our Wellington correspondent telegraphs that Mr Walter Fuller has been appointed registrar of births, deaths, and marriages at Hampden; Mr W. H. Jamieson is to act in a similar capacity at Hyde; Mr Robert Stevenson, Dunedin, has resigned his appointment as a justice of the peace; Mr Benjamin Harper is to be clerk of the Port Chalmers Licensing Committee, vioe Mr H. B; Reid. The following are among tho new justices of the peace appointed: Mr J. J. Bardsley (N.E. Valley), Mr Chas. Bennett (Gore), Mr G. L. Grigg (Halfmoon Bay) Mr A. Horne (Morton Mams), Mr A Ibbotson (West Harbour), Mr C. King (Milton), Mr S. Leash (Owaka), Mr T. A. Louis (Blaokstone Hill), Mr A. M Eiven (Fortrose), Mr P. Reid (Lower Shotover), Mr E. Webster (Ophir). Tho many friends of Mr L. Kcllett, M.P., member tor Dunedin North, will regret to learn that he has, at the conclusion of the Prince's visit, been obliged to go into hospital to undergo an operation wliich, if not exactly serious, is quite sufficient to cause him some distress, and put a stop to his activities for a few days. Mr Kellett was operated upon at a private hospital yesterday morreing, ar.d is reported to have come through quite successfully, and to bo progressing very satisfactorily. Mr William M'Millan, whose death took place at his home, "Gowan Brae," Dyer's Pais road, Cashmere, Christchurch, was until a few years ago a prominent farmer in the Irwell district. He was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, and was brought up to farming. He came to New Zealand in 1855 in the ship Mermaid, and landed at Lyttelton. In 1890 he bought bis Irwell estate, known as "Slideley," of about 760 acres, on which ho carried on mixed farming. Ho was a member of tho old Ellesmere Road Board for many .years, and was for a lengthy period their chairman. He was also a member of the Ashburton County Council for several years, and of the Barr Hill School Commttcc. Throughout his residence at Irwell he took a great interest in the Ellesmere Agricultural and_ Pastoral Association, of which he was president in 1905. Up to the time of his death Mr M'Millan was a, large shareholder in the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association.
