As a. man wears out his welcome, so welcome may wear out a man. That's • a Russell is said to liavo found in The Hero Stuff," the new feature to 16 ? 00 at the Queen's Theatre to-day, when he returned, a war-scarred warrior to meet the adulation of the public- that was neaped upon him at every turn. Siok of being fussed over, he decided to play the. coward to drrro away the admirers. This was quite successful until one girl came along and taunted him with his supposed' yellow streak. The girl happens to be the delectable Mary Thurman. Bill, to please Mary, seeks to regain his lost reputation, and in collecting together the remnants, he puts up some fine exhibitions of fisticuffs. It is reported to be bright comedy all through, with a special appeal to all soldiers. There will be a full supporting programme in addition to this feature, topical, educational, and humorous subjects being shown. ( W. S. Hart in his latest Artcraft picture, 'Breed of Men," which will be shown at the Plaza Theatre, commencing to-day, is said to typify that strong, vigorous manhood which stands for fair dealing amongst men, honour and respect for womenfolk, and protection for the suffering and the weak. The story has a Western setting, and the locations have been chosen with an appreciative eye to their scenic qualities. " Careless " Carmorly, the character Hart represents, is made sheriff by a designing land speculator who decamps to Chicago after having Bwindled many small settlers of moneys paid on their holdings, for which they havo no deeds. Oarmody's sense of justice takes him after the defaulter whom he surnrises in his bod, and with a gun as his only warrant, forces him to return to Arizona, and disgorge his ill-gotten wealth. The supporting films are described as being very good. Episode 8 of " The Grey Seal" serial will be screened at the afternoon sessions. A droma of domestic difficulties entitled "Josselyn's Wife" is the leading item on the Everybody's Theatre programme. Bessio Barriscalo takes the leading part. At the Empire and King Edward Theatres just now the appearance of Anita Stewart in " Human Desire" is the attraction. It is well supported by a variety of other pictures. An attractive programme of pictures may bo seen at the King's Theatre to-night. The chief film is "The Flashlight," with a varied bill of supports.
