CAPTAIN GUY THORNTON

THE SECRET OF HIS HOLD-OVER MEN.

(Feom .Our Own Correspondent.)

t lL rr, ■ ■ LONDON, March 11 In the Christian Herald a serial story called "Moira in Meshes" is about to appear from the pen of Captain Guy Thorntan (late chaplain, N.Z.E.F.). It deals with the adventuree* and hairbreadth escapes of an iinglish girl among the Russian Bolshevists ,and is founded on facts and experiences of refugees and eye-witnesses who are now m England. HIS RECORD.

Referring to Captain Thornton, the Christian Herald says:—

Ho is an Englishman by birth, was brought up an India, and has spcat many years in the- Australian colonies, New Zealand, and the South Sea Islands. Hβ was converted to Christ in 1893, and immediately commenced preaching the Gospel and from that time to the. commencement of the war he filled tho offices of an evangelist or a pastor under the* New Zealand Baptist Union, he spent some- years in tho how Zealand bush, and his experiences in that work havo been given in Ihe, Wowser; a Tals of the New Zealand Bush. Immediately upon the outbreak of tho war he enlisted as a chaplain, and went with the First Expeditionary Foroo to Egypt, where he performed nobl 0 service. Hβ was stricken down with illness, and during tho period of convalescence ho camo to England, and ministered with great profit to Dr F. B. Meyer's congregation and elsewhere, and also was a speaker at the Keswick Convention. Captain Thornton's evangelistic work in Egypt was almost entirely in the T.M.C. huts. It was no unusual thing for from two to ISO men to decide for Christ in one meeting. Captain Thornton once said: 'My creed is a simple one, and may be summed) up in six wordsChrist for me; Christ in me. Christ for me—saves_ me from tho penalty of sin. Christ in me—saves mo from the power of sin.' This has been the secret of the hold the captain has obtained over the service men, as in his evangelistic work in New Zealand."
