VISIT OF DISTINGUISHED AUTHORITY.
(Feom Ocb Own Coubkspondent.) WELLINGTON, May 19. Among the visitors to Wellington at preBont are-Dr and Mrs Jaggar, who live on the slopes of the great volcano of Kilauea, in Hawaii. Dr Jaggar is the Government vobanologist there, and is world-famous for a remarkable series of observations and photographs which ho has secured. Ho regards Now Zealand as an ideal field for volcanio observations, and suggests an ob83rvu.toTy in the volcanio zone of the North Island, preferable in tho vicinity of Waimangu, which is at the end of the Varawera rift, and on a long line of energy extending from Tongariro northward into tho South Pacific. The matter, he says, is of importance to Now Zealand, for, with sufficient data, volcanio energy can bo predicttd.
Dγ Jaguar will lecture here, and will shortly visit the South Island. Ho has with him a number of Interesting photographs ■and lantern slidag to illustrate his lecture. He has the honour of having shown Lord .and Lady Jelliooo the most interesting eights on Kilaucn during the Admiral's rccont visit to the Pacifie.
