YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.

GYMNASTIC DISPLAY. One of the largest audiences ever crowded on to the Y.M.C.A. running track last night assembled to r>ee a physical display by the men of the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium, and bid farewell to Mr W. Lloyd Phillips, retiring physical director, , and welcome Mr J. V. Henna, who is taking over the physical work in a full-time capacity. The programme comprised some very ' clever horizontal bar, parallel bar, and vaulting work, the funny , weak beilig supplied by E. Ward, a member of the boys' division, Messrs Arthur and Weavers gavo «wi exhibition cf ju jituu; Messrs Restieaux and Oxley. giving a threeround exhibition of boxing. The work Bhowod careful training throughout, the individual work of Mr Phillips being very heartily applauded. In the conrso of the evening the . president of the association (Mr H. K. Wilkinson), on behalf of tho members, rose to bid farewell to Mr Phillips, wlio, ho said, left Dunedin to take up physical -work on a larger scale, America being his destination. Mr Wilkinson, offer speaking very highly of Mr Phillips's Icnowlcdg® and ability in his profession, and wishing him well in hiß future, presented him with a monetary gift from the members of the gymnastio classes, The president then proceeded to givo some souivl advice to the boys, of whom isovorul hundred wore present, after which ho welcomed Mr J. V. Hnn.no,. the incoming physical director, on behalf of tho association. Before concluding, Mr Wilkinson offered ai few words of welcome to Mr W.' A. Hislop, supervising secretary of the Y.MLC.A. war work overseas, and one-time assistant secretary of the Dunedin Y.M.C.A. Mr Hislop, in responding, t6ld something of his experiences abroad, and expressed himself as being happy to be once more in Dunedin. The evening closed with a basket ball game between the swimmers and general membership. This proved to be a particularly _ fast and interesting contest, and resulted in a substantial win for the swimming olub.
