Y.M.C.A. BOARD MEETING
The monthly meefcuw of the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors was held on Tuesday night, the president (Mr H. K. Wilkinson) occupying the chair* He welcomed to the board Mr C. J. Darracott, and welcomed back an old member, Mr D. Leslie. Correspondence was read from Mr C. R. Kdmond, the Y.M.O.A. military secretary, outlining the scheme for the Y.M.C.A.' in conjunction with the Salvation Army in helpjng to provide accommodation during the visit of the Prince of Wales. Mr J. L. Hay wrote tellinsr of the movement on foot m Wellington for supplying residential accommodation for cadets in the Government departments. It was pointed out that a campaign for £15,000 was boing launched to establish this much-needed hostel. Tho election of officers resulted as follows : —President, Mr H. K- Wilkinson; vice-presidents—Captain C. F. Sundstrum, Messrs J. B. Waters and N. Patterson; treasurers—Messrs G. Hastie and D. Leslie; chairmen—'House Committee, Captain C. F. Sundstrum; Religious Work Committee, Mr F. Arthur; Social and Membership Committee, Mr G. Hastie; Junior Division Committee, Mr H. P. Desmoulins; Physi- » cal Work Committee, Mr J. M'Ara; Educational Work Committee, Mr F. Anscombe. In presenting the financial statement, for the month it was mentioned that the campaign for funds was still in progress, and that a special street appeal was to be made next Friday. The report of the Social and Membership Committee recommended 12 juniors, two intermediates, five seniors, and eight soldiera for membership. These were elected. It was reported that a campaign for now members had heen planned to take place from May' 1 to 22. Teams representing residents, intermediates, general members, business men, soldiers, swimmers, and boys have bfen organised, with Mr L. Churchill as campaign director. The physical department report showed » a good attendance at the gymnasium classes and mentioned outdoor athletics. The boys' division report, in dealing with the* usual activities, especially emphasised the success of > the Waihola Easter camp, and reported on tho organisation of a Sunday School Athletic League At the conclusion of tho meeting the president, on behalf of the Board of Directors, presented Mr G. Hastie with a clock on the occasion of his marriage. Mr Hastie replied in an appropriate speech.
