CONCERT AT FORTH-EAST VALLEY
The North-East Valley Tow.i Hall was crowded to the doors on Saturday evening when tho Returned Soldiers' Association's Musical Committee gave a concert in aid of the North-East Valley fallen soldiers , memorial anch. A splendid programme was rendered to an appreciative audience, and a substantial sum is said to have been raised towards the arch fund
A piano solo by Miss Jessio Joneg gave a fitting opening to th© programme, after which, dnnng the evening, songs, among which were the familiar "Up Prom Somerset," "The Old-Paahioned Town," and "The Bells of St. Mary's" were sung by Mr A. Maitiand, Miss D. Maitland (2), Mr N. Satterthwaite, and Mr W. N. Satterthwaito. Together with the opening piano solo the instrumental musical items of a cornet solo, and violin solo were rendered by Mr C. A. Hutton and Mr 0. D. Dagg, while a duet, "Poet and Peasant," was played by Messrs W. N. Satterthwaite and Alfred Maitland. The recitations by Mr Hayward and Miss Doreen Todd were appreciated, the latter reciting "Loohinvar." Two monologues by Miss D. Todd and Mr O. Hayward respectively were responsible for an amount, of entertainment, wliilo Jack Gilehrist (ventriloquist and whistler) and Mr Alfred Maitland (humourist) kept the audience well amused. That the several items wore enjoyed was shown by each of tho performers reoeivincr an encore. Miss Jessie Jones acted as accompanist to all items except Mr Gilchriet'g item of ventriloquism, for which Mrs Stokes played.. At the conclusion Mr J. J. Bardsley made n,n appeal to all residents of the North-East Valley to support the Aroh Committee in their efforts to raise the balance of the money required, and moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Musical Committee for their concert.
