; NOTES BY " SENTINKL." j CHUISTCHURCH, April 3. Somo intcTcatius fjullopg took phico nt Rico-urlon on Satiirtkiy morning. Tjong btvforo dayliglit trainers hatl tlioir Umiuis waiting for _ tho first streak of <l»uvn t<> inalio ut'o at' liie irp.ciss. As f*»on m thcro was sufliciont light, S a sun off and GoUJcn Bubble broke av/ay from tho mile post on tho plough, and aftor running the first five furlongs in lmin 2 .'s-6,»ec, the hitler \v<ua pulled off, ajul SaannofT finished (ho distance, oasing up, in lmin 43 -l-sscc. Tauaaha, who maltos a, iioiso, 'mlicoting slight trouble in tho respiratory oi'ga.ns, comfortably covered seven firrlonga in lmin 35 4-530 C. Winter Wind and Moorfowl wero both travelling well when reeling off five furlong.? in lmin a 3-ssec. | Amythnfl, lJ&dial, and Michacla wero to > jrallop six furlongs in company, hut Kadial , broke away in front,- whilst the maro was left several lengths behind. Amythas soon joined the leader, and they ran 'n company until straightened for homo, when Amythas drew out and ran home nicely in imiti Msce. Uadial raa about half a doxen lengths «.way, and registered lmin 15 2-ssec. Michncla followed on, and did not loso any around, so that slio also put up a good performance. Radial was probably giving tlio Lest part of a stono to Amythas, and put up a good gallop under the circumstances. Onslaught was picked up by Mac Duff, and eprinto:l five furlongs well in lmin 2 l-seoc. Battle Song cantered a coup!© of circuits. Chimera reeled off six furlongn very attractively in lmin 15 4-s&ec. Chrysastum pleased tho tmiis by beating Caricature over five furlongs in lmin 2 8-sscc Early Dawn cleared out from Hatana over iivo fur!o>ngs in lmin 2seo. Hatana is a lazy worker." _ 'Several othors also worked in the curly morning, and after an interval tno (rack conditions becamo faster i'rom tho effecte of a strong sun. Piary Cross required lmin 3 l-seec to covor five - furlongs, with the assistance of two stable mates, eaeli carrying him almut halfway. His gallop did not quite please, an:l wai not in keeping with his previous work. His owner, however, subsequently informed tho writer that the Glcnapp gelding, had eaten some of his bedding during the night. Others think that he has gone off a bit through a hurried preparation. The owner's information is preferred to outside opinions. Brackenfield was agisted by Some Kid ovor five or six furlongs in lmin 15see. Shaping well, Arrowsmitli was not galloped until about 10 a.m. With H. Gray up, _ lie had iio difficulty in getting lmin 1 4-ssec. Some watches made it lmin 1 l-ssec. Gray had a good hold of his horse all tho way, and tho Englishman finished strongly and pulled up well, lie looks moro muscular and strcngthy tlinn when racing at the Wellington Cup meeting Others who galloped really well during tlio morning included' Sunart, who strode over six furlongs in lmin 13 4-ssec, travelling well all the way. Ho has evidently como on since racing at the W T aimato mooting. Sunart finished well, and should give a good account of himself at tho meeting. It is understood that he will start in the Great Autumn Handicap, on tho second day, and he is well fancied ■ for both his races. Others who shaped well, but were not fully extended, included Kilealm and Nightraidor, Kohn shaped well ;n a school over hurdles, and after running off Kilboyne was brought back, and shaped well over three flights with Gaylight. * Sasanoff and Battle Song are regarded an doubtful starters in the Soekburn, present intentions being to keep both in reserve for tho Groat Autumn. Hector Gray will ride Arrowsmitli and Sasanoff. The weather promises to be beautifully fine for the meeting. Tho oourse is firm, but in good going order, and carrying an excellent aolo of grass. The Great Piaster is regarded as very open, and promises to bs a creat betting, race. Michaela has begun galloping woll', and won a lot of friends by a gallop ever seven furlongs with Amythas last week. She is sure to run a good race, but when the betting stops Arrowsmitli, Radial, i'.nd Sunart may carry moro support than tho others. ICohu and Gaylight will be well backed fn the Kildaro Hurdles, and Winter Wind and Moorfowl are sure to see a rather short price in the Champagne Stokes, in which Chryso3tum will also have good support, as he eeoms to be a good ooltT Taimaha will probably start first choice in the Autumn Plate, in whioh Some Kid a.nd Clean Sweep wHI also hare a ,'oig following. Jazz is fanced in some quarters for tho Eu/s----ley Plate, and southerners will j,ot tickct Be behead. If Sasonoff and Battle Seng" aro not started in the Soekburn Handicap, Roval Star will it art favourite Kilealm and Poo Chow should not lack friends in the Gimcrack Stakes, iind Cash'more will represent a, strong -table if he carries Mr W. G. Stead's colours ,in tlie raoe. Melee has a good lead in the Courtnev Welter, but he is a big strong horse, and well up to weight; and Hatana looks a good welter horse, and on form k. entitled, to strong support. All Ready should h~lp to make tho top weights feel their weight.
