TAIERI DRAINAGE BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Western Taieri Drainage Board was held at Mossiel yesterday, and attended by Messrs Jas. Miller (chairman), D. Ford, R. A. Kempshell, W. G. Reid, and J. G. Wyllie. At a special meeting before the ordinary business was taken a resolution was passed lowing special rates in connection with a loan of £1909 for building a now piece of river protection bank. Wm. Baird wrote drawing attention to the state of the drain running to Kirk's road, between Messrs Thomson's, Matheson's, and the writer's properties.—lt was decided to clean out the drain, and that the foreman bo asked to report on the necessity of carrying out other works asked for- . . In reply to a communication from the Inspector of Noxious Weeds, the board declined any responsibility in the matter of weeds growing on tho contour channel. Messrs Kompshell and Reid were asked to report on tho application of A. C. Wheeler (Henley) for a culvert near his £ a te. . , J. A. Elder (Outram) wrote with reference to compensation.—lt was resolved that the writer be asked to forward documentary evidence as to who was entitled to the compensation claimed, the property having changed hands. It was decided to grant A. J. Stewarts application to float a dredge on the Taieri River for the purpose of procuring gravel, as long as tho operations did not interfere with the board's works. Accounts totalling £214 Is 8d were passed for payment. The Engineer forwarded plans and specifications for contract for bank formation .'it Lake Tatawai. This had been let to Messrs Wilson and Fleming at Is 8d per. yard.— Received.
