Sap." suggeste an explanation of the difficulty which some subscribers say they have experienced in obtaining telephone connection with houses in llosryn. "When I rung up Jones, Eoslyn, at 1 a.m." he writes, "I got a response from Smith at Morning-ton. I remembered that Jones was 5555; in fact, could not forget such a number. After -wasting one hour and twenty minutes I consulted the directory and found that Jones was 9999. Since then I have learned not to swear st the exchange or the Government." H. W. Mitchell regards the time cs opportune for the erection of a Town Hall, and suggests that the revenue derived fromi the letting of the hall would be sufficient if meet tho interest charge. " Ratepayer," writing from Mosgiel, states that only the proprietors of a few of the small shops havo decided to observe the weekly half-holiday on Saturday, the remainder adhering to the Tmrreduy half-holiday until a ciiange is decreed by the borough electors " 1915-1919 " inquires whether, in connection with the visit of the Prince of Wales, any arrangement is being made for a parade of the men who were returned- on honourable Home Service duty, particularly of those wlk> enlisted voluntarily in the early stages of mobilisation rind, though physically unfit for active service, were willing to sacrifice tho advantages of civilian lifo in order to serve. Ho suggests that it is rather hard on these men that they should have to give pride of place to tho Senior Oadets, necessary and important though the latter corps is.
