third grade. I SEVEN-A-SIDE COMPETITION. A seven-a-sido competition was played off on the Oval on Saturday last, the grounds being in good order and the players keen, this being the first year of tho inauguration of "this competition, Soixio good eound play was witnessed, both on the nart of certain teams ss a whole and also "by certain individual players, who in some cases proved tho mainstay of their respective teams. The "knock-out" system was followed in carrying on the tournament. Each match was of tv/o seven-minute spells' duration. The first match was between Technical College li and Old the same institution, and proved a fast, interesting game, tho College standing up well to their heavier and older opponents. Both teams showed combination. Result: A drawn game 1 ail. The only other match worthy of special mention was that between Technical Old Boys and Hirh School A. High School were much lighter and lacked combination, but fast individual work of their forwards kept Technical Old Boys on the defensive for a good part of tho game, and repeated attempts of Old Boys to get through were ably checked by the School backs. Old Boys broke through, and scored just on time. The competition resulted in a win for Technical Old Boys, with College B and High School x\ equal as runners-up. Players who showed up well were: Hinton, Macpherson, and Harris for Technical Old Boys; Manley and Sow Hoy for Collego R; Gilbert, Baird, Wills, and Ireland for High School; Johnston, for Old Boys B; Watt and Battghan for College A. Messrs Finch, Robinson, and Ireland acted as referees.
