DUNEDIN DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

The thirtieth annual meeting of the Dunedm Defence Rifle Club was held last night Tho president (Captain Proudfoot) presided over a largo attendance of members. Tho annual report congratulated the club on a very successful year, notwithstanding the varied weather conditions. As tho seasons progressed the want of new barrels was greatly felt, but, according to information received, an abundant supply will lx> received early 111 the ensuing shootin«- season During the season tho club fired'threo matches—two against the Kiwi Club and a match against the Kaitangata Club. In the contests against the Kiwi Ciub the club was successful in the match fired on tho Kiwi range, but suffered defeat on its own range. It also won the match against the Kaitangata Club, the championship was won by Rifleman Gillan, with 751 points, and President Proudfoot (747 points) was runnerup, followed by Rifleman Dippie. with 739 points. Tho Otago Rifle Association held a very successful meeting on the Peb'chet Bay range at Easter, and great enthusiasm was shown by all competitors. Fifteen members of tho club shot throughout tho meeting with varying success. Tho club regained tho much-coveted Ladies' Challenge Shield. Several of tho club members journeyed to Gore at Christmas, and participated "in the combined Southland meeting with success. Rifleman Graham winning the championship of Southland and Rifleman Dippie winning tho championship of tho Gore district. During tho war 29 members of tho club joined the Expcditionar v Forces, and one mado tho supreme sacrifice. Five members wero granted commissions—Chaplain-captain Ross, Captain Bannerman, Lieutenants Mackay, Montgomery, and Hunt. Captain Bannerman. who is returning shortly, has had tho distinction of winning the D.F.C. and Bar. Lieutenant Montgomery has also had the honour of winning the Military Medal. Tho date upon which tho season is to bo opened is held over in tho meantime • awaiting further advices as to the new barrels. Tho following office-bearers were elected: Hon. president, Mr A. ,T. Shaw; hon. vicepresident. Mr C. Speight: president. Captain Proudfoot; treasurer, Mr R. M. Greenslade; secretary, Mr E. G. GraJiam; committee—president. treasurer, secretary. Riflemen Dippie, Gillan, Mackio, and Bannerman; Shooting Committee —President Proudfoot and Riflemen Macki'e and Dippie. Tho balance sheet showed a vcrv creditable balance.
