PORT CHALMERS OLD IDENTITIES.
■ ■- The Port Chalmers Old Identities' Association hold its annual meeting on Thursday evening, Mr J. M'Lachlan (president) in the chair. The President, in submitting the annual report, rehearsed briefly tho history of the association, iLs objects, and afpnaUons. iio mentioned, that death had claimed four of tho original members sinco tlie inception of the association, and 011 the previous night another of tho pioneers—Mx Neil Murray, retired builder, who came out in the year 1863 in the Daniel liankino had passed a\yay. _Mr Murray had been identified with this country ever sinco his arrival, and was held in high esteem Dy all. A motion of sympathy with the bereav?d family was passed. During the past year the death had occurred of Mr Samuel Gill (Portobello), Mrs Elizabeth Groves, Mrs Agnes Grainger, Mr Charles Jacobson, Mr Edward Morris (Waitati), Mrs Alexander Main, Mrs Mary Moir, Mr Archibald M'Gill (Dunedin), Mr William Solomon, Mr Thomas Thornton, and Mrs Alice Mary Watson. The balanco sheet was submitted and adopted. It showed income £73 2s 9d, and expenditure £65 9s sd, the credit balanco now Loing £39 12s 9d. Mr and Mrs Leon wrote 'wishing the members a pleasant evening, and presented the association with a set of flags. Ihe family of the late Mrs Grovss wrote thanking tho association for sympathy expressed in their recent bereavement. Mrs Jane Wilmott presented the association with a photograph of tho original members of tho Volunteer Firo Brigade as a memento of her late husband. Tho following officers w?re elected for tho ensuing year:—President, Mr I; C. Isbisicr; Vice-presidents—Messrs J. M'D. Stevenson, W. Love, sen., D. A. Do Maus, J. Mill, G. L. Archer. E. Knewstubb, J. M'Lachlan, and J. Harland; secretary and assistant, Mr J. M'Lachlan and Mr A. Leek; treasurer, Mr E. Knewstubb; auditor, Mr U M.- .Mawson: committee—Mesdames Basire, Thomson, love, and Miss Pickard, Messrs J. Pickard, J. Osborne, J. Harlandj J. Jackson, J. Hempsecd, and W. Jones; accompanist to Old Identities' Association, Miss Mackie. Tea was served at, 8.45 p.m. to enable the Dunedin members to leave by tho 9.15 p.m. train. Mr Scott sang "My Dearie, Oh," and "Mary" (encore); Mr Ilowden, sen., sang "The Battle of Stirling Bridge" and "Tlie Laird o' Cocknsn" (encore). Miss Mackio accompanied tho singers. Mr De Maus and Mr Ashei- contributed to tho enjoyment of the evening by recounting humorous reminiscences. Tho singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem closed the proceedings. During tho evening Mr Leek was presented with a gold-mounted umbrella, in token of appreciation of his work aa secretary during the past year. lie replied appropriately.
