EMPIRE THEATRE
• Tho name of Douglas Fairbanks on the programme released at the Empire Theatre vesterday was sufficient to ensure packed houses at each session. Tho principal picture was an Artcraft- superfeaiure, "He Cornea Up Smiling," in which the eversmiJing Douglas Fairbanks keeips the audience in fits of laughter. Ho first appears ns the valet of the vice-president of a bank, and his principal duty is to look after the vice-president's canary. The bird ultimately escapes , and the valet, after a strenuous and lengthy ehaso rccaptures it, but his sympathy is aroused and ho again allows it to have its liberty. Ho then decides_ to "cut tho painter" as far as his position as valet is concerned, and adventures follow him in quick succession. By a, lucky chance he secures possession of a M»t.°f olothcs belonging to a New York millionaire whilo tho latter is enjoying a swim, and by a peculiar combination of circumstances ho finds himself impersonating the owner of th~ clothing. This results in the pseudo-millionaire becoming involved in _ numerous awkward but highly anrusing situations from which he emerces i V j' 1 t^l ° ' lc v n ' rt a vcr y oharming young lady in his'possession.
