BRITISH TANKS. SOTvIE INTERESTING FIGURES. LONDON, September 11. Sir Eustace Tennyson d'Eyn court (Director of Naval Construction at the Admiralty), addressing the British Association at Bournemouth, said that 15 varieties of tanks had been used. One of the latest constructed -would enable a 60pounder gun or a 6in howitzer to bs carried. It could be quickly . dismounted when the desired position was reached. Another tank could carry 50 men or 10 tons of supplies. Altogether 3636 tank 3 had been produced, including 245 whippets. Over 400 tanks wore used simultaneously in action —A. and N.Z. Cable. AUSTRALIAN PEACE LOAN. MELBOURNE. September 12. The Commonwealth Peace Loan subscriptions total £1,182,600. The Hon. Mr Poynton states that the figures are very unsatisfactory.
