RESTORATION OF FRANCE. GERMAN WORKMEN VOLUNTEER. BERLIN, September 7. Vorwarts reports that 400,000 German workmen have volunteered for ' restoration work in Northern France.—Reutcr. NEW ZEALAND'S INDEMNITY. CANADA WAKING UP. OTTAWA, September 8. The statement attributed to Mr Massey, Prime Minister, that New Zealand expects to" receive £10,000,000 indemnity from Germany has been much commented upon. It is likely that there will be a question in the House as to Canada's share. It is understood that the Canadian statement of claim has already been filed —A. and N.Z. Cable. GENERAL PERSHING RETURNS. . AN ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. NEW YORK, September 8. Mr Baker, Secretary of War, and other members of the Cabinet welcomed General Pershing on his arrival aboard the Leviathan. Tbe city was decorated, and tremendous enthusiarm was shown. General Pershing was acclaimed in the speeches as one of the saviours of the world and of Liberty.—A. and N.Z. Cable. TANKS AS CLIMBERS.
