PORT CHALMERS COUNCIL
Tho Port Chalmers Borough Council held its fortnightly mooting luet night; present— tho Mayor (Mr J. M. Stevenson), Crs Isbister, Lunn, Love, Maodonald, 'l'cit, Jones, M'Lauchlan, OJlemiin, Mawson. Tho Works Oommitteo reported that tho wot -weather of the past week had been responsible for several slips on tho roads, the largest olio being on the Lower Harbour road just near the boundary between the Waikouaiti County and tho borough, which completely blocked the road. 'i'he other omaller slips v/ere duly attended- to, and are all pretty well fixed up. The committee was making arrangements for a special c!ean-up ■week in Port Chalmers. A circular would bo sent to residents, and they would bo required to mako- a general clean-up of yards, etc. The committeo recommended that a pound for wandering- cattle bo established in Port Chalmers.—Adopted, with the exception of the, last clause. The Finance Committee reported receipts for the fortnight £501 15s lid, and expenditure £535 14s, the debit balance being now £1037 93 lid. In connection with tho application of the trueteos of Holy Trinity Church for permission to subdivide section 273, of ■which they hold a corporation lease, the committee recommended that permission bo granted on. condition that the section be divided into two cqnal ports, and that a plan showing- tho subdivision be submitted to tho Reserves Committee for its approval, and that all costs o£ survey, transfer, eto., be home by tho lessee.—Adopted. The Gas Committeo reported that since last mooting they had secured a visit from Mr M'Auliffe, of Lyttelton, who made a full inspection of tho works and submitted his report. The committee was arranging I to have the whole of the pipes at the works opened up and sighted for levels, and if required tho pipes to bo relaki, and recommended that tho recommendations in Mr M'Auliffc's report be given effect to.— Adopted. CORttESPONDENCE. Mr J. M. Dickson, ALP., wrote accepting appointment to the committee engaged ou tho question of reclamation of Mussel Bay. Ho expressed appreciation of tho necessity lor immediate action.—Received. Mr R. Morris wrote regarding, a slip on a property higher'up endangering his house, and asking for the. assistance o£ the Works Committeo to erect a conorate protective wall.—Referred to Works Committee. Mr J.' G. Lovo. complained of the bad condition of the road in the vicinity of William street and the railway tunnel.—Referred to Worka Committee to report. Tho Dunedin Coal Trado Committeo wrote, stating that the Westport Coal Company had applied for s permit to deliver 10 tons of coal to Port Chalmers Corporation for distribution por tho local coa.l merchants, and asking for assurance that this would be done in the proportion of six ba-ge lignite to ono bag bituminous coal.—Received.
