FIRES.
(Pun United Peess Association.) AUCKLAND, August 24. A fire gutted the top floor of the Hall of Commerce last night, practically destroying tho stock and fittings of Mr M. J. Schneidoman, who estimates the damage at between £10.000 and £12,000. The insurances totalled £4500 in the National Office Iho remainder of the building was saved as the result of prompt work by the brigade. ,
CHRISTCHTTRCH, August 23. An outbreak of fire this morning at Mr Butchers fellmongery near Kaiapoi considerably damaged the building and contents, consisting of wool and felt The Premises, which had been taken over bv the Government, mrt insured in the Queensland Company; for what amounts was not ascertamablo.
