NEW ZEALAND TRADE

PROSPECTS FOR THE FUTURE. (FaOM OtJB OWK COBBESPOKDENT.) LONDON, June 30. In an interview in The Times Trade Supplement, Sir Thomas Mackenzie (High Commissioner for New Zealand] remarks upon the extremely good condition of trade in New Zealand. There is, ho says, a certain amount of labour unrest, but not nearly to tho same extent as in other countries. Since January New Zealand had been allotted about 60 per cent of the tonnage available for Australasia, and for May and June the proportion would be about 63 or 69 per cent. New Zealand had felt very strongly about the quantity of refrigerator tonnage that had been diverted to the United States, and the high prices which had been paid for American meat, as compared with those paid for New Zealand ami Australian meat, left room for explanation. Sir Thomas said he had no doubt thero was room for very great expansion in New Zculand. Tho United Statea was making an enormous bid for trade. In fact, one commercial man had remarked to him this week that they wnre out for the control of tho Pacific, and were not leaving any BtoDO unturned to secure tbja. A Eaftgoods warehouseman, who was In England buying for his New Zealand house, had informed him that ho could purchase New Zcalandmado woollens in Now Zealand at 25 per cent, less thun he would have to pay for a emi!« qsaJiiy article in Great Britain.
