WOOL SALES.
GOOD COMPETITION. Prees Association—By felogxaph—Copyright LONDON, August 22. (Received Aug. 24, at 5.5 p.m.) The wool sales have closed. The prices were the highest of the series, and there was good competition throughout. France was particularly active, and the United States, helped by the exchange, purchased freely, especially of good style wools. Xhe Home trade was active. Seventy thouii&nd bales were cataloged and practically all were sold. luper combing merinos were keenly competed for, particularly by the United States and France at 10 per cent, to 15 per cent above the last closing rates. Average inferior oombdngs were 5 per cent up and carbonising realised full July "rates, line crossbreds were in good demand for the Continent and Yorkshire at 10 per cent, up, while medium were 5 per cent up, and low were firm, but unchanged, line scoured wool was 10 per cent up and low was slightly dearer.
