KING'S THEATRE
Of the many fine programmes which have boon presented at the King's Theatre none have surpassed and few have equalled in point of merit tho new programme which was released on Saturday, and the constant and spontaneous applause from the packed house present at each session demonstrated that patrons appreciated to tho fullest extent the bill of iaro provided. Tho big feature is a Fox drama, "Tho Island of Desire," and especially to those who have read btagpoole s stirring tales of the South Sea Islands will the picture make a particularly strong appeal. The story teems with adventure and depicts many stirring aud hairraising incidents connected witfi. an expedition after pearls. The popular athletic star Ueorge Walsh, plays the leading part, and probably has never previously appeared to better advantage. Walsh has the part of a Honolulu newspaper man—Bruce Chalmers. Ho enters into a partnership of adventure w }t h Layers, a gin-soddened native, and a wily Chinaman to go after pearls in a lagoon off one of the well-hidden coral atolls of the South Sea Islands. The party arrive at the island and find an immenso booty ot pearls, but they also find there, already in possession of tho pearl beds, a beautiful girl, long before shipwrecked and thrown up on this atoll. The expedition breaks on this obstacle for Chalmers falls in love with the girl, and fights his partners for her retention of the pearls. There aro many thrilling encounters in the plots and counterplots that follow, and some magnificent ecenes as well. Another stirring drama, Railway Riders," proved a strong' support to tho feature picture, while the necessary diversion was provided in "Mashes and tcf 5 - "ht Programme will bo repeated
