The monthly meeting , of ■&© Board of Governors of tho King Edward Technical College waa hold yesterday; present—Messrs T. Soott (chairman). E. A. Rosovear, C. E.. Hayward, D. H. Mawson, E. F. Duthie, J. A. Hasletfc, J. H. Wilkinson, end W. K, Brugh.
Tho Finance Committee recommended that accounts amounting to £355 12s 6d and salaries amounting to. £512 7s 2d bo passed ior payment.—-Adopted. The Vyorka Committee recommended that tondera"'be called for the supply of 400 folding chairs for the Burt Hall, application to be made for a grant-in-aid, and that a roughcast straight concrete wall bo erected on the York place boundary. A general acheme of levelling and sotting out the ground between the hall and tho main building was under consideration.—Adopted. Tho Director reported that thero had been a further increase in the attendance at tho evening classes. Owinrr to the late enrolment of students and also owing to the sizo of the classes, it had been deemed inadvisable to accept, daring the present quarter at least, any more applications for admission to the chemistry and motor engineering classes. The class for sheet metal workers had mode a satisfactory start, and the classes for singing, musical training, and voice production were well attended. Tho time table had been arranged so that Mr Solby jwoodwork _ instructor) would be free on Monday mornings, and ho (the director) therefore suggested that the woodwork class for tho boys of the Christian Brothers' School should be resumed. A number of locker seats were required for tho girls' cloak rooms.— Adopted. A letter was received from the Minister of Education etating that the department did not favour the proposal to erect a girls' hostel on the present school site, as it considered the site was not large enough for the requirements of the college, let alone for the building of a hosteL The department recommended that the board should obtain a more suitable site for the building.—The letter was referred to the special committee appointed to deal with the hostel question for a report.

The ground contained about 80 acrea suitable for the plough, and it ia proposed to cultivate as much as is required to supply the house end the school, and to provide exoeri- % Jnental plots for a, complete course of fieldwork to meet the requirements of the first •nd second-year pupfls of the agricultural course. Once this; small place is in working order, the board will make an effort to acquire, within 10 or 15 milea of Dranedin, a farm of such size as will enable it to enter on all the work required for third and fourth-year agricultural students.
