death of • Mr Charles C. Kettle, formerly S.M. and District Judge at Auckland, is reported by a Press Association message. Born at " littlebourae House" iDunedin, in 1850, the late Mr Kettle was educated at tho Otago Boys' High Sohool aad Nelson College, and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court' ;U1 was a PPointed a. District Court Judge for Manawatu and Taranaki districts, registrar .(with extended powers) of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth, and -was appointed a stipendiary magistrate in 1890 In 1895 he became District Court judge for the Wairarapa district, in addition to Manawatu and Taranaki; District Court judge for tho districts of Waikato and .Thames, and senior stipendiary magistrate at Auckland in ISO 4. Deceased had the distinction of being the first New Zealander to be. appointed to the judiciary. He retired a few months ago.
