NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN
ACTIVITY IN THE WAR. . (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 27. Some interesting information, is now available concerning the part which tho New Zcalandcrs have played in air fighting against the enemy on the western front. A. famous fightinsr squadron was the 74th, and during the last seven months of the war it 'was composed entirely 'of New Zaalanders. Previous to that time it was commanded by Captain A. Ball, V.C., D.5.0., M.C., who was accounted the best single air fighter in British service. Ho was killed, and Major Caldwell, a New Zealander, succeeded to the cofnmand. Soma of the officers with him were Major Callender, Captain Cooke, Lieutenant Colliver, and Lieutenant Gray, all of whom wero decorated with tho exception of Gray, who was captured by the Germans. It may bo added that an air squadron consists of 18 machines, three flichts of six machines each, and that all the New Zealapders comprising tho _ 74th_ Squadron _ received their initial training in air work in New Zealand.-
