The Rosamond left Napier on Monday for Timaru, where she is to load for Napier and Gisborne, via Wellington i Tho Kokiri left Auckland at 9 p.m. on Monday for Westport, Greymouth, and Ctaehunga. _ The Amenoan schooner Ottill© Fjord arrived at New Plymouth last Thursday from San Francisco with cargo consisting of benzine, oil, lumber, salt, and canned fruits. Tlie vessel was 78 actual sailing days on the voyage, calling at Samoa for water. Captain Olsen is in charge. The schooner loads a cargo of hi-cLes and hemp at New Plymouth, and then returns direct. Information has been received in Sydney that the United States Government has promised sufficient tonnage undeT a new arrangement for the transportation of a stated quantity of ooal each month from San Francisco to Honolulu for tho bunkering of vessels crossing between Australia and America. Prior to the entrance of the United Sta'es into the war, Australia and Japan supplied a part of the ooal, but since April, 1917, America's contribution to the requirements of the coaling base has dwindled owing to / . tho diversion of ships to the Atlantic route.
