MAT 16. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Drunkenness.—William John Newman was remanded for a week for medical treatment.- -Allan M'Millan was fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisoDmoDt. Assault.—Charles James Wright, alias Fox, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaultin£ John Blacklock.—Senior £>ergcant -\iurray asked for a remand until Saturday. Defendant was looked up only tho previous evening, and with a cord from his underclothing he made an attempt to strangle himself in tho cell. As a result ho was in an unconactoca condition for some time. Senior Sergeant Murray alao asked the magistrate to inspect tho injuries received by complainant. It was alleged that defendant and another man went to tho Rope Works and struck complainant (a man over middle age) on tho back of his head with his fist. The forco of tho blow knocked him forward into a barrel of hot water. Complainant's noso struck a pump close to the barrel, severe injuries resulting.—The remand was granted.
