THE RED CROSS

There was a splendid attendance, sod much enthusiasm shown at a meetnig presided over by Mr H. P. Harvey, at NorthJiast Valley last night, -which, augured weH for the success of the movement to ««««<■ the lied Oross Society in its endeavour to establish a homo for wounded soldiers. *1 Rev. \. G. B. King placed before the meeting an outline of toe scheme whioh hud been undertaken, and daring the course of his remarks made pointed reference to tile gciierii.l absencc of men from all meetings appertaining to the "welfare of soldiers. It was unanimously decided to talca steps to assist tho movement and a strong committee was set up for this purpose. A cordial vote of thanks to the chairman and Air King ended what nrast bo looked upon a.5 a splendid response to tho call of tho Red Cross for help. It is a great pity tho genera] public cannot see more of the activities of the local branch of the Rod Gross Society, the sacrifice of time and skill so oheerfnily given by tho bond of devoted -workers, the enormous amount of work put through, how day after d:iy great cases of comforts are sent away to our sick and wounded soldiers. Thoy would realise more and more that here indeed was a sphere of usefulness -where thcra is no work more sacred, none moro patriotio. none a more' palpablo duty in this dreadful time of war than that of tho care of our «rfTering boys. Tho ladies will gladly welcomo any visitors, and will explain the needs and working of tho association. Tho latter will find there an air of cheerfulness, of happiness, born, perhaps, of tho knowledge of well-doing. A veritable spirit of Florenoo Nightingale seems to pervade tho whole room.
