OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY

The annual report states that the fixtures for the year have been fairly successful. During the year tho socicty has had the misfortune to lose by death the services of four gentlemen who had for many years been connected with the society—namely, Messrs W. L. Philp (hon. life member), W. J. J. Charters (member of oommitte<?), Jas. Shiel (life member), and A. Hamilton, M.R.C.Y.S., hon. veterinary surgeon. As has been the practice since the war began, the society hiis assisted the patriotic associations in every possible way,, both during the Winter Show and at the summer fixture. Hie attendances at both the winter and summer shows were considerably less than lact year, the "Winter Show particularly being very seriously affected by severe floods which occurred throughout Otago at tho time. At the Summer Show tho entries were on the whole good and the weather fine, bat. owing to the restricted train services and the short-age of labour in the country, a falling off in tho attendance from country districts was very noticeable. During the year further improvements have been steadily carried out at Tahuna Park, and a portion of the ground has been set apart for a local pound, the society's caretaker acting as poundkeeper. Members are asked to amend the rules with a view to appointing an extra member for th© Clutha district, and to make provision for the fruit-growing- districts of Central Otago being reproMnted on the committee. The balance sheet shows that the receipts for the year totalled £5951 6s 4d (including £1202 8s from gate money, £905 15s from subscriptions, £968 8s 5d from entry and space fees, and £695 from rents), while tho expenditure was £3976 12s 7d, leaving a debit balance of £25 6s 3d. The chief items of expenditure were: Prize money £947 18s 3d; interest accounts, £693 9s 9d; show and general expenses, £600 14s 7d; salaries and wages, £516.
