SAVES WOUNDED MAN, BUT DIES HIMSELF.

A trooper's gallantry in saving tho lifo of an injured soldier on the occasion of tho lose of a transport was told in tho London Gazettd of March 8. The trooner. whoso lifo was lost, with the sinking of the ship, was James Weiner Magnusson, of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, and ho has been awarded the Albert Medal. Magnusson, who was on the deck of the transport, saw an injured soldier struggling in tho water, and immediately dived overboard. although there was a very rough sea. He swam to his assistance, and succeeded in placing him in a boat. MagnusRO ! 1 .then returned to the sinking ship and rejoined his unit. His life was lost.
