PROPOSED RECIPROCAL TRADE.

(Fbom Oon Own Correspondent.> AUCKLAND, April 25. Important possibilities in connection with the producing interests of the dominion are involved in tho visit of Mr Samuel B Moomavr, of the Bureau of Markets, United States Department of Agriculture. Mr Moonmw has como to this country on a special mission to investigate the sources of supply of beef, mutton, wool, dairy produce, and fruit, in order to ascertain tho prospects of supplying America with any of these products, lie will also report upon the prospect of molting reciprocal trado arrangements. Ho is at present in Auckland, and prior to visiting Australia will proceed to the chief producing centres in Now Zealand. Mr Moomaw states that, owing to tho rapid settlement on and subdivision of Inrge American cattle ranchcs into smaller farms, beef and other products from the land have fallen off in supply, ana jus chief purpose in visiting New Zealand is to investigate tho question of immediate anil future supplies. The fruit-growing industry in tho dominion will como under special review. The fruit seasons in New Zealand and America would permit of reciprocal arrangements being made, especially as he believes that tho American applo is popular in this country on account of its flavour and shipping qualities. Mr Moomaw's attention was drawn to a report in the newspapers in Amcrica and the dominion regarding the use by tho former country of about 500,000 tons of Japanese shipping spa«e. He said he believed a largo proportion of this would bo used in tho _ Pacific trad". America was becoming an increasingly largo customer for meat and wool, chiefly on account of tho rapid increase in tho industrial population, l'resh supplies of products from the land were theroforo necessary to meet tho greater demand. .
