PERSONAL.

Mr J. H. Waters, who has occupied the position of postmaster at Palmerston lor the past five years, lias been transferred to Pukiikohe (Auckland), on promotion. Prior to their departure from Palmerston, Mr and Mrs Waters wero entertained at a social and made tho recipients of presentations by the Residents of the town and district. Mr Waters, who lias been deservedly popular, both in hi 3 official capacity arid as a private citizen, was presented with a gold chain, while Mrs Waters, who has been a zealous worker in the interests of the Red Cross Association and other patriotic movements, received a gold necklet and pendant. Tho presentations were mado by Air llodk. Cameron.

There was a largo gathering at the Allandale Hall, Shag Point, on Friday evening to accord a welcome to Sergeant J. A. M'Leod, Corporal Jas. Guthrie, and Private Wm. Brooko and Seobie Bowden. who recently returned invalided from the front. At a oonvenient interval in the proceedings Mr Thomas Walsh, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented each soldier with a handsome gold medal, suitably inscribed. A patriotio address was delivered by Mr Sydney Beak, Mayor of Palmerston, and Mrs Jas. Wilson, Misses Alma I.e Fevre, Matthews, Howie, and Austin, and Mr Sutherland were the principal contributors to an excellent musical programme.
